GENE DAVIS Royal Curtain 1980
I remember walking by the Willard Hotel on Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington, D.C. and looking into its front window. As I found myself staring at a Gene Davis painting installation, I knew right then and there, that he was, and is, a major force in art.
His stripe paintings, like Royal Curtain, give us the feeling of moving color. This influence appears in one of my ‘Visions of America’ PenturaVisions titled North Dakota… – M.J.
