JOAN MIRO Creole Dancer 1977

This rare and exciting piece was created using a Color Wash, Etching, Aquatint and Carborundum on Arches; mixed media at its very best.

Miro has captured a culture in two pieces of art. Those being: ‘Creole Dancer’ and ‘Mambo’ and I am so very pleased to have both of these stellar works in our Portfolio of Excellence.

Looking at ‘Creole Dancer’ I feel that Miro being a Catalonian had a place in his heart for the Creole lifestyle. His understanding of the motivations of movement is uncanny. I feel the passion of the night and almost can hear the Zydeco band letting loose from a makeshift bandstand in Thibodaux, Louisiana, a real fais-do-do… – M.J.
